This is an outstanding double-bill of pulsing dance and film inspired by the festival theme of ‘image and identity’. Jamaican dance star Ripton Lindsay brings a hot new dance piece followed by a revival screening of the emotional ‘Dance Got Me’ by Bristol-based Zimbabwean filmmaker Ingrid Sinclair.

Lindsay’s new work and its original music score blazes against a backdrop of archive film from Bristol Record Office. From Jamaican roots to hip hop, Ripton creates a personal take on contemporary life. Ever wondered how a choreographer approaches a new commission? Join us after the performance for a short Q & A and find out.

In ‘Dance Got Me’ Ingrid Sinclair tracks Zimbabwean dancer/choreographer Bawren Tavaziva from impoverished Harare township to London’s premier dance stage, Sadlers Wells. His glorious mix of contemporary dance with traditional African themes and moves glow with deep and honest emotion.
